Grown in closed cups and comes with serrated leaves which, after a transitional period in the aquarium, develop into long, finely serrated, needle-like leaves.
In good light conditions, it takes on a beautiful copper color and its characteristic appearance contrasts pleasantly with other plants.
Proserpinaca palustris varies in shape depending on its origin. The Tropica cultivar is found on Isla de la Juventud off Cuba. In the United States, the plant is known as "mermaid weed".
