With its small round leaves just a few millimeters in diameter, Hemianthus callitrichoides, which is one of the smallest aquatic plants in existence, spreads across the bottom of the aquarium.
The plant is not difficult, but it requires good light conditions, added CO2, water circulation and fertilizer to grow.
Often, small bubbles or pearls of oxygen are deposited on the top of the plants, giving this ground cover a very lively appearance.
Planted in small bunches a few centimeters apart, it is capable of completely covering the soil of the container in no time. If the conditions are not met, you can try the Micranthemum 'Monte-Carlo' which requires much less. Prune it regularly, otherwise the lower parts risk dying and losing their grip on the ground.
Hemianthus callitrichoides is an attractive foreground plant for small aquariums. Originally from Cuba west of Havana.
