Microdevario kubotai Care Guide with Aquarium Size Requirement:

1. Species Overview:

  • Microdevario kubotai, commonly known as the Green Neon or Kubotai Rasbora, is a small, lively freshwater fish native to Southeast Asia. Its bright green body makes it an eye-catching addition to any aquarium. It's a peaceful species, best kept in a community tank with other non-aggressive fish.

2. Aquarium Size:

  • A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended. Microdevario kubotai is a schooling fish, so it should be kept in groups of at least 6 individuals to reduce stress and promote natural behavior.

3. Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 68°F to 78°F (20°C to 25°C)
  • pH: 6.0 to 7.5
  • Water Hardness: 2 to 10 dGH

4. Aquarium Setup:

  • A heavily planted tank with plenty of cover is ideal for Microdevario kubotai. Floating plants are also recommended to diffuse lighting, as this species prefers dimmer environments.
  • Use a soft substrate, such as sand or fine gravel, to simulate its natural habitat.
  • Ensure that the water flow is moderate to simulate the slow-moving rivers and streams where it originates.

5. Diet:

  • These fish are omnivores. They readily accept high-quality micro pellets, flakes, and frozen or live foods such as daphnia, baby brine shrimp, and micro worms.
  • Feed small amounts 2-3 times a day, making sure that the food particles are small enough for their tiny mouths.

6. Tank Mates:

  • Microdevario kubotai gets along well with other small, peaceful species, such as small tetras, other rasboras, and dwarf shrimp.
  • Avoid housing them with larger or aggressive fish that may bully or stress them.

7. Fish Size:

  • Microdevario kubotai reaches an adult size of about 0.75 to 1 inch (1.9 to 2.5 cm).

8. Disease Prevention:

  • As with all small fish, maintaining good water quality is crucial. Regular water changes, adequate filtration, and careful monitoring of water parameters help prevent disease.
  • Quarantine new fish before introducing them to the main tank, and monitor for any signs of illness or stress.

By following these care guidelines, Microdevario kubotai will thrive and add a splash of vibrant color to your aquarium.
