Bucephalandra Titan Care Guide

Common Name: Bucephalandra Titan
Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate
Family: Araceae

General Description:

Bucephalandra Titan is a large and impressive Bucephalandra variety known for its broader leaves and strong, sturdy growth. Compared to smaller Bucephalandra types, Titan develops thicker foliage and a more robust structure, making it a standout plant when attached to driftwood or rocks. Native to the streams of Borneo, it grows naturally in fast-flowing water and is highly valued for its durability and attractive texture in aquascapes.

Care Requirements:

1. Tank Size:

Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons (38 liters)

2. Lighting Requirements:

Lighting: Low to Moderate

It grows well in low to moderate lighting conditions. Moderate lighting can enhance leaf coloration and subtle iridescent highlights.

3. CO₂ Requirements:

CO₂: Not required (Recommended for optimal growth)

CO₂ injection improves growth speed and leaf development but is not essential for maintaining the plant.

4. Water Parameters:

Temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F)
pH: 6.0–7.5
Hardness: Soft to moderately hard

5. Substrate:

Substrate Type: Not required

Bucephalandra Titan should be attached to rocks or driftwood. The rhizome must remain above the substrate to prevent rot.

6. Fertilization:

Nutrients: Low to Moderate

Regular liquid fertilization supports healthy leaf growth and helps maintain the plant’s deep green coloration.

7. Maintenance:

Growth Rate: Slow

This plant requires minimal maintenance. Occasional removal of older leaves keeps the plant looking clean and encourages new growth.

8. Propagation:

Propagation Method: Rhizome division

The rhizome can be carefully divided into sections, each containing several leaves, to grow new plants.

9. Placement in Tank:

Placement: Midground

Due to its larger leaf size, it works well as a midground plant attached to hardscape where it can create structure and depth.

Summary:

Bucephalandra Titan is a durable and visually striking plant that brings texture and presence to planted aquariums. Its slow growth, ease of care, and adaptability make it a great addition for both beginner and experienced aquascapers.
