Anubias Barteri Broad White Maintenance Guide and Description

Description:
Anubias Barteri Broad White is a striking variant of the popular Anubias Barteri, characterized by its broad, oval-shaped leaves that have a unique white or light cream-colored pattern in the center, often surrounded by deep green margins. This slow-growing, hardy plant is native to West Africa and is often used in aquascaping for its robust nature and ability to thrive in a variety of conditions. Its ability to grow in both submerged and emersed environments makes it highly versatile for various aquascaping setups.

Maintenance Guide:

  1. Placement:

    • Best placed in the foreground or midground, where it can serve as an eye-catching contrast.
    • Ideal for attaching to rocks or driftwood using aquarium-safe glue or fishing line.
  2. Lighting:

    • Prefers low to moderate lighting.
    • High lighting can cause algae to grow on the leaves, which can obscure the plant's beautiful white pattern.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F).
    • pH: 6.0–7.5.
    • Water hardness: Soft to moderately hard (2–12 dGH).
  4. Substrate and Nutrients:

    • Can thrive in a variety of substrates, including nutrient-poor gravel.
    • While it doesn’t require high nutrients, supplementing with liquid fertilizers will promote healthy growth.
  5. CO2 Requirements:

    • Does not require CO2 injection, as it is a hardy and adaptable plant.
  6. Growth and Trimming:

    • Very slow-growing.
    • Occasional trimming is recommended to remove any dead or yellowing leaves and to maintain its compact form.
  7. Propagation:

    • Propagates through rhizome division.
    • Gently cut the rhizome and replant the separated sections to form new plants.
  8. Tank Conditions:

    • Can tolerate a wide range of conditions, from low-tech to high-tech tanks.
    • Performs well in stable environments with consistent water parameters.
  9. Algae Control:

    • Susceptible to algae buildup, especially in high-light conditions.
    • Regular water changes and algae-eating tank mates will help maintain leaf cleanliness.
  10. General Tips:

    • Avoid burying the rhizome in the substrate to prevent rot.
    • Perfect for low-maintenance aquariums and for beginners.
